Fresh Hens and Roosters
Fresh hens and roosters from our farm are prepared daily and sent to a USDA approved processing facility. Hens and roosters are slow-grow meaning we NEVER add any hormones or antibiotics to speed up the growing process. It takes about 6- 8 months to grow each chicken. Fresh poultry are always 100% natural and cage-free.
1. Fresh Young Hens
Fresh young hens are the most tender and take up to 30-35 minutes to cook. Each chicken weighs about 3 to 4 lbs. Hens are gutted and clean.
Young hens make a great chicken soup and are great for roasting!
2. Fresh Young Roosters
Fresh young roosters are also tender but are bigger and take 40-45 minutes to cook. Each chicken weighs 4 to 5 lbs. Roosters are gutted and cleaned.
Young roosters are great for soup and grilling!
3. Older Hens
Older hens have tougher meat since it takes 1.5 years to grow. It takes about 1 and a half to 2 hours to cook. Note: Hens have not been gutted.
Older hens make great chicken broth and stews!
